What was wrong with me? – My journey

Since I can remember I have always had red cheeks.  Some days were more painful and red than others. I was once diagnosed by a Professor at a University with Rosacea (Autoimmune disease), and became his study case – I had to take a lot of antibiotics, cortisone salves etc., with no lasting effect!  Then came the IBS symptoms, the endometrioses, Infertility, numerous bladder infections and eventually at the age of 50, in desperate need for help, I was diagnosed with Coeliac disease by a Naturopath.  For the first time in my life I had someone, willing to go the extra mile to look for answers.

What is Coeliac?

Coeliac is an Autoimmune disease, such as Crohn’s disease, Lupus, Multiple sclerosis, Psoriasis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Type 1 Diabetes and ulcerative colitis to name only a few. In fact, there are more than 80 recognized autoimmune diseases, many of which share similar symptoms, making them difficult to diagnose. Current treatments focus on relieving symptoms as doctors believe that there is no known cure.   In short, an autoimmune disease can refer to several illnesses that are characterized by an overactive immune system that attacks the body’s healthy tissues.

After this diagnosis, I tried the treatments and dietary adjustments prescribed by the Naturopath and after years of hopelessness I started seeing positive results and at last the long way to recovery could start.

Fortunately, now, more than 4 years later, I know that there is a cure – in fact I now know that no disease is incurable!

Keep an eye out for the next blog posts to follow my journey to health.
